Personal experience talks (in person or virtual)
“PTSD and me.” A.G shares her personal journey with Complex PTSD, diagnosed after an initial inpatient stay at a psychiatric hospital. Following her recovery, she has since been on a journey to raise awareness, but also support and help others. The talk focuses on her journey, learnings, how she recognised she required help and what support was accessed. She’ll also cover the signs of stress and burnout, what prevents us from seeking help and what small steps you can take to support yourself and others.
“Baths, Beards and Booze.” To this airline Captain and Black Box Investigator, Mental Health was not a “thing” – it was just yoghurt and yoga. Following 20 years in aviation, he experienced a life-changing redundancy that took him to a place of hopelessness. This talk looks at how one single event changed his perspective on life and led him to help others, using his skills in the world of suicide prevention.
“From floundering to flourishing.” S.D shares her story of how she feels a mis-neurodevelopmental diagnosis had a significant impact on her life and contributed to her using alcohol as a coping strategy. In this uplifting talk she shares the stressful impact of ADHD and ASD (Autism) and “feeling like such a wrong’un the whole time” and her journey to recovery. She also shares how her learning, growth and study of positive psychology led to her to tun things around and create a life of “flourishing.”
